D&B titan Wilkinson christens the launch of his new record label Sleepless Music with single ‘Frontline’, out now
Pairing frantic bass energy with rapid-fire breakbeats before building to a raucous crescendo, ‘Frontline’ is a full-frontal D&B anthem that sees Wilkinson return to his roots. It marks the maiden release on Sleepless Music, an imprint that has been set up to ensure that the music always comes first for performing artists and DJs. As a long awaited dub, ‘Frontline’ was the natural fit to kick-start the new project as the label aims to build a catalogue of forward thinking dance music from both established and new artists that Wilkinson is passionate about.
One of the most recognisable names from the world of D&B, Wilkinson has sold out Brixton Academy twice; amassed half a billion streams across his back catalogue, and worked with artists such as Naughty Boy, Laura Mvula, Wretch 32, Jem Cooke and Karen Harding, and even scored a platinum UK ‘Top 10’ hit with 2013 smash single ‘Afterglow’ featuring Becky Hill.
More recently he has been collaborating with Sub Focus, with the pair shifting their sound towards something altogether more melodic and introspective. Dropped last year, their debut collaborative album Portals hit the #1 spot on the OCC Dance Albums, with tastemaker platform UKF describing it as “the truest album they could have created”.
After a period of experimentation, ‘Frontline’ represents a shift back towards the D&B sound that Wilkinson is renowned for.
