Italian duo Leklerk releases filthy new bass song ‘Distance’

Leklerk is a duo hailing from Italy who specialise in creating dark and intense basslines. They’ve uploaded filthy remixes of popular songs like Noisia – Tentacles, Northlane – Heartmachine, Carnage – Motorola, and more on the group’s soundcloud page.

They are releasing a brand new EP this coming Saturday via Electric Wave and we were lucky enough to be given a single from the EP. We spoke to the group about their upcoming projects and how they create their sound. While listening to their new unreleased track ‘Distance’, read more them below.

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?

For who’s not familiar with our sound we can say that our style is deep, dark and influenced by digital sounds. We also love the feeling of “the calm before the storm”, slow and melodic breakdowns interact with powerful bass drops. We also dig  lot cinematic stuffs like movie trailers.

How did it all start for you?

It all started in the far 2011/2012 when we discovered Skrillex, he seriously changed our approach to the whole world of music. We both started producing about 4 years ago, messing around with FL Studio and 2 years ago we met on the Internet. In April 2018 Leklerk was born and we are super proud of this new project together!

Are there any key pieces of equipment that you can’t live without?

A computer and a DAW are essentially what we need in our life. That’s where all the magic happens.
What are some of your key influences in your music? Whether it be the sound created by others, imagery, films or any kind of art form.
A great part of our inspiration come from films and soundtracks, any kind of video, mainly horror movies. We listen to a lot of music too from any kind of genre.

What is one sub-genre you think doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

Midtempo used to be really underrated but with artists like Rezz, 1788L, K?D and many others it’s finally getting his way to the top. We are discovering a lot of talented artists who are producing this lowtempo style!

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar?

Blanke, Hekler, Tynan are probably our favourites at the moment but there are a lot of talented artists out there who deserved more attention. Here in Italy we have Gazz and Amyss who are some names to look out for.

What makes your live performances different from the rest?

Since we are keeping our identity secret, the main element of our live performance is for sure our black mask we wear during the show.

What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As performers? As attendees?

We had our best night in 2015 here in Italy,  Milan as attendees. SBCR performed before Skrillex and those has been the best live sets we have ever seen. SBCR and Skrillex went crazy that night and gave us a lot of inspiration.

Do you have a tip for anyone else trying to create their own music?

The best tip we can give is: just follow your creative flow and let your art come out. Don’t argue to copy a sound from someone else but work on your characteristic sound design.

What is your favourite venue of all time?

Here in Italy there’s Nameless Music Festival which is an awesome festival in a dope location but our dream is to join EDC Las Vegas one day. As performer or viewer it’s the same, we just want to experience it.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

We don’t have any upcoming show in the near future but we have a ton of music in the box waiting to be released. The next track is coming this 10th of August via “Electric Wave“, an upcoming Italian label. We really can’t wait to share all this new music!
