We had the amazing opportunity of chatting to 19 year old electronic music producer, Afterfab from a little French town named Vulbens. Having began his journey into creating music since 2012, he has explored being creative with his sound, remixing popular tracks as well as collaborating with prolific artists in the industry. The electronic and bass producer has gone on to receiving a plethora of support from big name artists such as The Chainsmokers, R3HAB, Brooks, Showtek, XUITCASECITY, & Spirix. Now with thousands of subscribers, Afterfab is on the up and coming with his first major release through Spotify for a collaboration done with upcoming rapper JDAM and the young talented PASSIK.
We asked the young producer a few questions and these were his responses:
Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?
Hey guys, I’m fine, thanks for having me as your guest today!
At the moment, I’m looking for the comments on my new Jon Bellion’s remix I made with my friend Airmow that Trap Nation posted on YouTube yesterday haha…
To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
I think my music can be described as a melodic and chill trap, that you can listen for your own or dance with your friends at the same time.
What are the 5 albums and artists that have influenced you the most?
I don’t have any favourite album, I’ve been more influence by artists : I really appreciate DJ Snake for his live performances, and also the person he represents as an artist.
I’ve been also influenced by San Holo, because his melodies are like stuff dreams are made of.
As astonishing it could be, old Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike made me enter into the EDM‘s world.
Michael Jackson was also my favourite artist when I was younger, I listened to him very often, and it is something that influence my music today, even though you cannot really hear some MJ’s stuff in my tracks.
Otherwise, all the “hands up” stuff, like Bass hunter etc.
What other artists do you really like at the moment and why?
Right now I’m listening to Jaydon Lewis, a 17 years old DJ and Producer from South Africa. That guy is talented as hell and I’m jamming to all of the tracks he made. Mainly, his latest release “Rise”, with Largo, which is a masterpiece!
Also, Akalex, he makes some Jersey trap style, and I think it’s one of the only french producer I know that make this kind of music.
Oh, and also GODAMN, my really closest friends from Geneva, Switzerland, and their EP “Post Tenebras, House Vol. 1” released on Confession this March, with two bangers: keep an eye to those guys!
What are some of the key pieces of gear you use to write your tracks in the studio? Or do you prefer to use software and plug ins?
I mostly produce on the software named Ableton, and I use plug-ins like Serum and Sylenth1, I really use those two, but I work with many others too.
Has your arsenal of equipment changed much since you first started?
Yes of course ! I changed like three times my computer haha, I bought over the years a few MIDI-keyboards, I also bought some M-Audio BX8 speakers, and I find them so great !
Do you enjoy playing to an audience or working in the studio?
I prefer playing to an audience, because seeing the crowd bouncing to your music is such a satisfying thing. But also I enjoy being in my studio too.
If we gave you the budget to put a line-up together for a mini fest, who would you book and where would you play?
Without hesitation, DJ Snake and Boombox Cartel; if you want to have the biggest party of your life, bring these two ones!
Carnage, because that guy is incredible.
Also, 2¢ (Craze & Four Color Zack) and GTA, because they throw some huge live performances, and I enjoy watching their lives when there’s one.

If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
Good question … If I wasn’t a musician, I think I would like to be a start-up’s CEO.
Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects, DJ mixes or collaborations in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
I have a bunch of unreleased stuff ready to go for this year. I’m also working on a side project, named AFTRFB, in which I produce house, bass house, and so on 🙂
